Non-ticketed events often present challenges to estimating total participation, especially when multiple locations are involved. Such was the case at the eight official viewing locations for Olafur Eliasson’s NYC Waterfalls and the 23 gates at Prospect Park in Brooklyn. Among commercial clients, property owners who need to rent retail space must measure pedestrian traffic both indoors and outdoors. ARA conducts pedestrian counts in high-traffic street and mall settings (such as Rockefeller Center and the World Financial Center), as well as in less structured areas with multiple access points such as parks (Battery Park) and gardens (Queens Botanical Garden).
